Anonymous asked: Been following this for a while :D I wanted to ask what game companies if any do you support?
Uhh, first of all thanks for taking the time to ask a question. I’m not a big fanboy or rabid supporter of a specific game company. I was talking to my friend a couple days ago, and she was telling me how she had a Sega and I had a Super Nintendo. I think the extent of my fanboyism(sp???) pretty much consisted of SNES WAS COOL SEGA DROOLS! when in reality they were both good systems in their own right.
I mean, I haven’t supported game companies that much these days, it was a different story in the 90’s. But, since you asked just let me think a bit. I’d say I really liked Capcom in the 90’s. I mean, they were just throwing out kick ass titles like it was Christmas. So I mean, like, naturally you go “well this company is awesome!”. What can you say they had:
Megaman series.
Breath of Fire series.
Street Fighter.
Final Fight.
Strider.
It’s like, the list goes on. It felt like an honest company. I mean, now my boy Keiji(MM creator) bailed, they produce alpha builds to the public(Marvel vs Capcom) then x months later release the final version, character DLC slamming with Tekken/Street Fighter Cancel MMLegends. It’s just, really shady business now. I mean, maybe it was like that back in the day too? Who knows I was a dumb kid. The problem is it makes itself obvious that it’s a business that wants to take your money. We all know it’s a company, but I mean, try to hide it better at least.
Dat Squaresoft. Every title that was released was a jewel of epicness. When you opened a Nintendo Power every month you prayed to the gods that it had something from Squaresoft. I mean, I really liked Square back then, I liked any company that produced hit after hit. Let’s just turn on the boing meter for a second…
Front Mission: Boing~
FF Series: Boing~
Chrono Trigger: Boing~
Secret of Evermore: Boing~
Secret of Mana: Boing~
Idk man, like, the thing is I loved Enix a lot. Illusion of Gaia, Star Ocean, Ogre Battle which is one of my all time favorite games. Now when I heard they they were going to merge I was like “OOOHHH YEEEAH BOOIIII YOLO” But you know, it just felt like a slow decline in quality. To be fair they had a lot of great games at the start, but I mean the Final Fantasy series is reduced to Final Fantasy 13, arguably the worst Final Fantasy game to exist.
It’s like, the company suffers from the same problem Capcom does. It’s this DLC stuff. It’s just making it way too obvious they want your $$$ instead of trying to deliver you an experience.
“Holy crap! Gilgamesh has almost 10,000,000 HP and he constantly heals! Wow, a huge jump in difficulty aside from his last appearance in Final Fantasy XII. I must get this game and DLC!”

I mean, people who pay to play/beat optional bosses? What? Where do you even begin? And nobody questions it either, it’s just like “WOWOMGF TAKE MUH MONIES BRAHSOFT”. And you know it’s stuff like that which just makes it really obvious that it’s about sales and not about trying to bring an experience to the player. I mean, it does make you dislike the companies.
Again for me, it’s a a case of liking a company way earlier(90s) and a different time and not so much now. I don’t think game loyalty is important. What’s important is video games being produced for the right reasons, and without a hook to literally attempt to take all your pocket rupees.
Thanks for the question, bud/bab.
